Tip 1:

[ Consider Your Guest's Comfort ]

At Summerill and Bishop, our favourite way of showing someone we love them is by setting a beautiful table. Whether it’s simply done or a maximalist masterpiece for the senses, laying the table is an opportunity to show our family and friends how much they mean to us.
However, while table setting is a wonderful way of expressing ourselves and tapping into our creative side, no matter how beautiful the table is, if your guests aren’t comfortable, they won't be sitting together around the table for a long time. Thus, we recommend you use cushions or seat pads for added comfort and have blankets to hand as the night falls and the temperature drops.
The addition of cushions and seat pads provides an added layer of comfort that allows guests to relax and linger for a little longer, while cozy blankets offer a sense of homeliness and care as the evening grows cooler.
It's these small, yet thoughtful touches that transform a simple gathering into an unforgettable moment, creating an environment where everyone is at ease. This way, your guests can sit around the table and enjoy for hours.

Tip 2:

[ Consider Where Your Table Will Be Placed ]

Just as you thoughtfully considered how to design your tablescape, the location of the table itself, is equally important. Does sand or grass cover your chosen spot? If the former, we suggest laying down a rug or two. The aim is to create a setting where your guests will feel cozy and comfortable – a setting where they’ll feel encouraged to kick off their shoes, relax and want to sit and talk together for hours.
For a beach gathering, you may consider selecting a spot that has a firm ground and doesn't make your table wobble. Also keep in mind that in coastal settings the wind can pick up quite strongly, so make sure you select a spot that has a nice and gentle ocean breeze. If you prefer a setup in the countryside, consider selecting a location that is surrounded by beautiful greenery, this will give your guests the impression of being truly immersed in the outdoors. With this being said, sitting at the end of the garden and looking back at the house, is our favourite spot.

Tip 3:

[ Place Your Table Under a Tree or in the Shade ]

If you are planning an outdoor meal during warmer or sunnier months, we suggest you place your table beneath your favourite tree or under a pretty leafy canopy. This will allow you to enjoy the cool breeze blowing in the shade, and watch as the shadow dances across the table as the sun moves across the sky. This tip will create the most beautiful effect and movement on an otherwise motionless table, perfect for an added touch of uniqueness and personality. A tree or canopy is also an excellent way to adorn your setting with fairy lights or lanterns, and will allow your guests to linger for longer as the night falls. This is a great opportunity to involve nature in your tablescaping design and make the most of the resources that are already available to you. Perhaps you also have a beautiful fountain in your chosen location, combined with the shade from the trees, this touch will also bring a sense of peace and harmony that will make your gathering feel like it is set in an oasis.

Tip 4:

[ Select a Unique Tablecloth ]

The tablecloth is the most important element of your table, as it is the foundation of your tablescape. We suggest choosing a colour palette or print that matches the occasion. If you are hosting in the spring, perhaps a print with Tulips, Roses, or Iris blooms is ideal. Similarly, if you prefer designs that seamlessly transition across different seasons you may find stripes or gingham patterns to be more suitable for your needs. At Summerill & Bishop we have a great collection of beautiful table linens that will spark inspiration and wow your guests.
We suggest selecting a tablecloth that resonates with you and allows you to build a table that inspires you. Just have fun and be creative!

Tip 5:

[ Be Creative With Your Tableware ]

It is commonly understood that outdoor dining is usually less formal, however we are here to remind you that this is not always the case. Your outdoor table setting can be as special and elevated as you wish. Every occasion with loved ones is a reason to celebrate and enjoy, so choose pieces that you cherish and that will show your guests how much the occasion means to you.
We like to style our outdoor tables with a combination of unique glassware and ceramics, layering different heights and styles to add a feeling of depth and different dimensions to our tablescapes. Consider a large centrepiece or floral arrangement if you are feeling bold, or go for a selection of smaller bud vases scattered along the middle of the table. Further, choose a variety of heights and styles for your dinnerware and serveware to keep your arrangement from looking 'flat'

[ Souviens-toi de vivre ]

Now that your perfect outdoor table has been set, it is time to sit back, relax, and cherish these sweet moments sitting together around the table. Celebrate the art of living in the moment surrounded by loved ones, delicious food, and the beauty of the outdoors.
Love,
S&Bx
